We are looking for a dynamic Director/Curator to lead Campbell House Museum, located in the oldest surviving building from the Town of York – an 1822 heritage-designated brick house at 160 Queen Street West, in the heart of downtown Toronto. We invite you to bring a creative and entrepreneurial approach to this permanent, full-time position.

You will be responsible for creating a vibrant public space and welcoming facility for Toronto’s cultural communities, museum visitors, and rental clients. You will represent the museum to the public, within the museum and heritage professions, and with Campbell House’s various stakeholders, which include the City of Toronto; manage the development and operation of the museum, adhering to the Board-approved Mission Statement, policies, and annual budget; direct for the protection and use of the museum collection and of the heritage-designated building; direct staff (1 full-time Museum Coordinator and about  5 part-time Historical Interpreter-Event Facilitators) in areas of interpretation, program development and delivery, exhibitions, and visitor services; and control administrative activities. What you bring to the role:

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in Museum Studies or a related field, such as art or theatre
  • Minimum 5 years of practical experience in museums or equivalent
  • Knowledge of the aspects of managing a museum or other cultural institution, such as partnership development, human resource management, financial administration, and marketing
  • Knowledge of the principles of historic resource management and an understanding of how they would apply to the museum collection and the heritage-designated building
  • Knowledge of the principles of interpretation, education and learning in relation to the museum setting
  • Effective communication skills
  • Entrepreneurial
  • Strong personal and/or professional engagement with the arts
  • Enthusiasm for teamwork and collaborative projects
  • Demonstrated commitment to professional development
  • Basic computer skills

Program Assistant – Young Canada Works 2024

Campbell House Museum is currently hiring for the position of a Program Assistant under the Young Canada Works Program.

The Program Assistant will work closely with the Director/Curator and Museum Coordinator to help plan and execute the museum’s spring/summer program, which includes indoor and outdoor events. The Program Assistant will also participate in daily museum activities.

The Program Assistant will carry out the tasks over a 15-week period, from May 7 to August 17, 2024. The term of employment is dependent on Young Canada Works funding, and is subject to change.

Volunteers

Campbell House welcomes applications for volunteers who would offer tours for the general public on on Wednesday from 11 am – 4 pm. This position is a great fit for young professionals looking to gain experience in the field as well as seasoned volunteers interested in culture and heritage.
